Now I Know

Times I have discussed issues

Sharing the burden of a friend

And in my thoughts was this

“If it were me, I would handle this”

I have tried to comfort some

Giving the best of a support

Yet concluding in abstract terms

That I could do better, in their shoes

My thoughts became beliefs

My conclusions bore no doubts

Until a day came

And I saw my shoes change!

I felt the pain I once downplayed

I knew how my friend had felt

Now by experience, I conclude

That Chess is easier played out-of -board

I had thought myself strong

Able to console, unshaken in control

But it’s dawned on me now –

By His grace alone are we not consumed!

1Corinthians 10:12 12 So be careful. If you are thinking, “Oh, I would never behave like that”—let this be a warning to you. For you too may fall into sin. (TLB)
