Salvation’s Cost
What exchange can give
A man of anything to live?
Many a man would not believe
Though water hold in a sieve
What fosters doubt mere
Keeps the mind from truth bare
Kindled atoms of evil flare
Blown thither and here
Quelling this fear in myriads
Nothing could thus raid
Save that a sovereign* soul’s paid
Not after we all were made
We hum the price as free
Of our Saviour’s actual fee
Seeing His blood on a tree
Dare we to call it free?
A treasure in a field found
Though foolish it does sound
A man would sell to the ground
‘Til in his possession it abound ~
How much could afford
A man, even if he did hoard
All that lifts a life bored
Than to cast from life’s boat, all overboard?
Salvation is thus priceless
Only by blood, nothing less
Will find himself in eternal mess
One that thinks any less
1 Peter 1:18-19 “God paid a ransom to save you from the impossible road to heaven which your fathers tried to take, and the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver as you very well know. 19 But he paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” (TLB)
