SUCCESS BID
This bid to succeed
Is what I had always foreseen
But in all that I had seen
A setback of sin had always been
When I embarked* on a course
With all reasonable force
There seemed a pause
And yet sin the cause
When I decided to be on my own
And meditate on the unknown
Seeds of evil begin to get sown
All of which, from sin had grown
I begin to doubt a way out
For even when my ends were tout
And it seemed I had descended from the mount
Arising, was yet sin; challenging me to a bout
As had been, I’d always lost
In that I couldn’t match the cost
But of reasons the most
Sin’s dad was my host!
So shocking to discover
But glad it’s been uncovered
Now I wish to recover
All that’s been under cover
This is my bid to succeed
With Christ to meet my need
And if from His word I take my feed
Then certainly, I will succeed
Rom 8:12-13 “My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires. If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God’s Spirit you say “No” to your desires.” (CEV)
